Dimensional Engineering Training Webinar Series – Part 3

Tolerance Variation Analysis for Automotive Components | November 25, 2020

When manufactured, parts never made to perfect specifications. Due to variation caused by material characteristics and manufacturing processes, such as stamping and machining, parts always made larger or smaller than their nominal design. This variation captured in design as tolerances, depicting the range of variation acceptable in the design.

Essentially, variation analysis helps to validate GD&T used for each part thus reducing variation risk and the need for scrap and rework. It also determine optimum Gap and flush of automotive components based on manufacturing process as well helps to resolve production issues by using measurement data
from the plant.

In automotive industries ensuring all part components meet part specification thus facilitate, and speed up product commercialization is crucial nowadays.

Key Takeaway
  • Understanding the importance of tolerance variation analysis.
  • How 3DCS helps automotive industries fast track vehicle commercialization.
  • How variation analysis helps validate and determine optimum GD&T.
